Enduroka 24hr - Anglesey

EMAX finishes P10 overall and first in class at the Anglesey 24hr

For our second 24hr race of the year EMAX were invited by the MSVR Ka series to compete at Anglesey in the Enduroka 24hr.

Car 115 was the only Citroën C1 in a field of Kas, which meant the team had to be well prepared, as we had less power, less grip and no spares back up apart from what the team brought.

Testing and qualifying went well. Our straight line speed was good but we lacked corner speed due to skinnier tyres and less grip.

Drivers for the race were Arran Grisley, James Taylor, Ashley Aspin, Jo Plowright and Glen Finn, with Jo taking on his first endurance race.

Achieving P16 on a grid of 17, we knew our strengths would be reliability and consistency. The little C1 ate through tyres throughout the race, with new front tyres being fitted by the team at every stop.

With driver stints of approximately 2 hours the aim was to make it into the top 10, and after 6 hours we were running P8.

Arran had decided to take his first stint in the dark, which is a daunting position to be in. With lights shining in the rear view mirror the car left the circuit and struck the barrier at the end of the straight. Arran managed to get the car back to the pits where the team assessed the damage. Although there were a few dings and dents, everything was straight, and with 2 laps lost to minor repairs (tank tape and a hammer) the car was again sent on its way.

Jo initially struggled with the car, being more used to his City Car Cup machine with more grip and less roll, but after a while got into a groove and posted some impressive lap times.

James once again achieved the fastest lap for the car at 1:32.6.

With the hours ticking by all drivers were having a great time, and the car was faultless — not a washer or bolt was used throughout the entire race. More tyres were thrown at the car, using approximately 30 throughout the duration.

With the final flag approaching, Arran took the car to an impressive P10 overall and first in class.

A wonderful race and great team work, and especially fun with the drivers taking part. Thanks again to the Enduroka guys for the invite.

The result was as follows for the team:

115 - 1st in class - P10 overall
